He was walking a few steps ahead of the co-inhabitant of the building. Their steps echoed within the underground parking garage as they neared the door to the small lobby filled with elevators.
He held the door open to allow his garage traveling teammate to enter before him, but realized she was farther behind than he thought. He stood silently for the few moments it took her to arrive.
“Thank you” she said as she passed and set her bag down on the floor.
He entered the room, allowing the door to shut behind him, and pressed the up arrow on the elevator controls. A few moments passed, followed by a ding and the doors slowly opened.
The woman had now littered the floor with various things from within her bag and as he stepped into the lift, he heard:
“Ha. Found it!”
He could only assume it was her keycard, which was necessary to gain access to the floors above the first. He scanned his own keycard and pressed his floor number, then, held his hand out to prevent the doors from closing, waiting on the woman.
He noticed she seemed in no rush and was obsessively putting the things in her bag. He stood there for a few moments before she finished and stood.
“Oh, I didn’t know you were waiting.” She said and walked to the lift. She scanned her card and pressed one. The doors close, their interior mirrored surface reflecting the blank stare on his face.
